To help protect the privacy of data and personal information we collect and hold, we maintain physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis.

We train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your information. Access to your Personal Information is restricted to employees who need it to provide benefits or services to you.

Website analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and webpage usage.

By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner described in Google’s Privacy Policy– external site and for the purposes set out above. You can opt out of Google Analytics if you disable or refuse the cookie, disable JavaScript, or use the opt-out service provided by Google– external site.

Access to personal information in the mobile apps

The mobile apps published by the company may be able to access your personal information like phone numbers, email addresses and text messages. These apps do not share the personal information with the company or any other third-party service. If you choose to upload or share your information with a cloud service then the information is only stored on those services and only to the configured accounts. See the Enterprise section below about license reporting.

Access to personal information in the backup viewer on this site

The backup viewer (at https://synctech.com.au//view-backup/) allows viewing of the xml backup in a more readable format. Even though it is a page on our website, it performs all the processing of the xml backup file in the browser itself. The contents of the backups (and your personal information in them) are never uploaded to any server.

App analytics

Our mobile apps use Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand app usage. You can opt-out of the app analytics from the Settings screen of the apps.

In-App Advertising

Our mobile apps may display advertisement banners within the apps. Various third-party services are used for displaying these ads. No personally identifiable information is shared with the advertising service providers and you can opt-out of the advertisements from the Settings screen of the apps.

Google user data

If you choose to back up to Google Drive or to send backups by Gmail, the app asks for permission to use your Google account. It uses that permission only for the purposes described in “Access to Google Drive” and “Access to Gmail” below.

The app’s use, and transfer to any other app, of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We do not receive, store or process any Google user data on our servers. We do not sell it, share it with third parties, use it for advertising, or use it to develop or train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

Access to Google Drive

Our apps can be configured to automatically upload the backups to your Google Drive account. To facilitate this, the app will request you to allow it to access your Google Drive account on your behalf.

  • The app only accesses the xml backup files in the configured folders and only uploads files when a backup is performed (automatic or manual).
  • It can read the files when you View a file within the app or when you restore from a backup.
  • It can delete the files if it is configured to automatically delete older backups or if you manually delete backups from within the app.
  • It does NOT access the files at any other time and never sends the contents of the backups or any other data about the files on Google Drive to the developers or any other third-party.

What the app stores. The app stores the address of the Google account you chose and the backup folder you selected, so that it can run future backups. They are kept in the app’s settings on your device. The app never sees or stores your Google password; access is granted through Google’s own sign-in.

Retention and deletion.

  • The stored account and folder stay on your device until you sign out of Google Drive in the app, or uninstall the app or clear its data.
  • Backup files the app uploaded stay in your Google Drive until you delete them, or until the app’s automatic deletion of old backups removes them, if you turned it on.
  • To withdraw the app’s access, remove SMS Backup & Restore from the apps with access to your account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • We hold no Google user data, so we have none to delete.

Access to Gmail

If you choose to send backups by email using Gmail, the app asks for permission to send email on your behalf (the Gmail “send email” permission). This permission only lets the app send email. The app cannot read, search, change or delete any email in your account.

How the app uses it. The app uses this permission only to send the backup emails you have set up. Each email goes from your Gmail account to the recipient address you entered in the app, with your backup files attached. An email is sent when a backup that you set up to be emailed runs, or when you choose to email a backup. As with any email you send, Gmail keeps a copy in your Sent folder. Emails go directly from your device to Gmail. They are never sent to SyncTech or any third party, and we never see your emails, your backups or your Google account details.

What the app stores. The app stores the Google account you chose and the email address you entered, so that it can send future backups. It is kept in the app’s settings on your device. The app never sees or stores your Google password; access is granted through Google’s own sign-in, and Google Play services on your device holds the access it grants. If you use Android’s device backup, the app’s settings, including this address, may be included in that backup. Google stores that backup in your own Google account.

Retention and deletion.

  • The stored account stays on your device until you sign out of Gmail in the app’s email settings, or uninstall the app or clear its data. The recipient address stays until you change it, or uninstall the app or clear its data.
  • Signing out stops the app using your account. To withdraw the permission itself, remove SMS Backup & Restore from the apps with access to your account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • We hold no Google user data, so we have none to delete. Emails the app sent stay in your Gmail and with their recipient until you or they delete them.

Enterprise license reporting

SMS Backup & Restore Enterprise is provided to organisations through Managed Google Play. To count the installations covered by each organisation’s license, the Enterprise app sends a short report to our servers each time it starts. It also sends one whenever your organisation’s administrator changes the app’s license settings. The free and Pro versions of SMS Backup & Restore do not send these reports.

Each report contains:

  • the license key and organisation ID that your organisation’s administrator entered;
  • an installation ID. This is a random identifier the app creates the first time it runs. It is not based on your device’s hardware identifiers, and it changes if the app is reinstalled or its data is cleared;
  • the manufacturer and model of your device, and its Android version;
  • the version of the app.

As with any connection to a server, our servers also receive your device’s IP address.

The reports do not contain your messages, call logs, contacts, phone number, accounts or any other content from your device. They are not linked to your device’s advertising ID.

We use this information only to manage licenses and to support our enterprise customers. We do not sell it or share it with third parties. It is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

License reporting is separate from app analytics. It is required to license the app, so turning off analytics in the app’s Settings screen does not stop it. It is set up by your organisation’s administrator.

Our server logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for 30 days and then deleted. To ask about this information or to request its deletion, please use our Contact us page.
